Surgery is considered for patients suffering from significant joint dysfunction and persistent pain. Similar to articular cartilage, the TMJ disc lacks an intrinsic regenerative capacity. The displaced or otherwise damaged TMJ disc is exposed to morphological changes and degeneration. Internal derangement of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) frequently involves displacement of the TMJ disc, the most common TMJ arthropathy. While adverse tissue reactions were not shown, the authors suggest that with improved attachment and design, the PLA disc and biomaterial itself would hold potential for TMJ disc replacement. The ASC discs pre-treated with TGF-β1 enhanced the condylar integrity. The ASC disc replacement resulted in dislocation and morphological changes in the rabbit TMJ. The left condyle treated with the differentiated ASC discs appeared consistently smoother and more sclerotic than the right condyle. No signs of infection, inflammation or foreign body reactions were detected at histology, whereas chronic arthrosis and considerable condylar hypertrophy were observed in all operated joints at CBCT.
Thereafter, the excised TMJ areas were examined with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and histology. The control and differentiated ASC discs were implanted, respectively, in the right and left TMJs of rabbits for six ( n = 5) and 12 months ( n = 5). Prior to implantation, expression of fibrocartilaginous genes was measured by qRT-PCR. These ASC discs were pre-cultured either in control or in differentiation medium, including transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 for one week. We investigated tissue-engineered bilayer polylactide (PLA) discs and autologous adipose stem cells (ASCs) as a potential replacement for the TMJ disc. The company had a turnover of 4 million Euros a year, however Komulainen sold Solo International Ltd to Solifer Group during the summer 2006.The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disc lacks functional replacement after discectomy. Komulainen’s company, Solo International ltd, used Sanil Europe ltd to import scooters and bicycles to the Finnish market. In 2002, after the film wrapped up, the submarine was purchased by the USS Saratoga Museum Foundation, towed to Collier Point Park in Providence, Rhode Island, and opened to the public in August 2002. He later married the winner of the competition, Anitra Ahtola. The submarine was also used as a restaurant and Komulainen even held his own beauty pageant, Miss Submarine, on top of his K-77 in Helsinki.

Komulainen got into a Russian submarine business with Russian partners and purchased a Juliett-class Soviet submarine K-77 in 1993, which he later chartered to the Intermedia Film Equities Ltd as a movie set of the K-19 Widowmaker movie starring Liam Neeson and Harrison Ford. Anitra Ahtola is a Finnish model and the first runner up in 1996 Miss Finland competition. Komulainen’s second marriage to Minna Brygger produced one child but did not last long, as he already married Anitra Ahtola in 1998.
The couple divorced in the 1990s and did not have any children, which was speculated to be the cause to the divorce. Jari Komulainen married Assi Koivisto, the daughter of President Mauno Koivisto in a lavish wedding in the Presidential summer palace, Kultaranta, in 1982. He became famous by being married to the Finnish President Mauno Koivisto’s daughter, Assi Koivisto. Jari Komulainen is a Finnish businessman.
